Individual counselling – what to expect

I am a BACP accredited counsellor and psychotherapist with over 20 years experience and and hold an MA with distinction in Counselling and Psychotherapy. I provide counselling for adult clients over 18 years old.

Counselling is a form of talking therapy that offers a safe, confidential, and non-judgemental space to explore whatever may be troubling you. Talking openly with someone outside of your day-to-day life can feel both relieving and validating, particularly when you are feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or emotionally exhausted.

Counselling can help you better understand yourself, your relationships, and the patterns that may be affecting your wellbeing. It offers the time and space to reflect, process difficult experiences, and reconnect with what feels right for you.

As a private practice counsellor, I work with adults experiencing anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, relationship difficulties, bereavement, family problems, chronic health conditions, and the wider challenges that life can bring. Alongside this, I have extensive experience supporting clients who have experienced childhood trauma, including neglect, abuse, inconsistent or absent parenting, and parental loss.

My counselling approach is attachment-informed and trauma-focused, helping clients make sense of how early experiences may continue to affect emotional wellbeing, relationships, and self-worth in the present day. Psychotherapeutic counselling allows space to explore these experiences in depth, understand learnt patterns of relating, and work towards healthier, more fulfilling ways of living and connecting.

I offer clients a therapeutic counselling relationship that aims to feel warm, supportive, and emotionally containing. While therapy can sometimes feel challenging, it should always feel supportive, caring and respectful.

What to expect in the first session
Taking the first step into counselling can feel both hopeful and nerve-wracking. My role is to help you feel as comfortable as possible from the outset. Drawing on my experience, I will gently guide our conversation. We will spend time exploring what has brought you here and what support you’re looking for, without any pressure to share more than feels right.

I’ll also explain how I work, answer any questions you may have, and discuss confidentiality so that you feel informed and supported. By the end of the session, we’ll have a clearer understanding of your needs and whether working together feels like the right fit.

I work from my dedicated counselling room at my home in Goring-by-Sea, Worthing. Or, if it is more convenient for you, I am experienced in working online via Zoom/WhatsApp.

Counselling takes place in 50-minute sessions. I offer both short and long term therapy.

Cost per session is £65.

You are very welcome to contact me to find out more, and to ask any questions, before deciding if you would like an initial session.
